The White Ombre

The White Ombré is the culmination of both Nick and Tricia’s hopes and dreams. Where Nick is the master of cake design, Tricia balances the economics of the business. Though both different in background and character, they have managed to complement each other greatly, and come together to become a golden couple in the cake decorating world.

How We Started

While pursuing a degree in Sydney, Nick sold his popular cakes to friends and local cafes. After graduating in digital media and working a couple of years as a graphic designer, he realized that his true passion lies in baking, and was offered a place in the prestigious culinary arts school, Le Cordon Bleu Ottawa, Canada. He graduated with a diploma in patisserie, and also clinched the coveted top prize in a Christmas gingerbread house competition, beating renowned hotels, patisseries and other well-known culinary schools. The cherry on the cake was being specially requested by Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper to build a gingerbread house!

Tricia’s love for baking stemmed from her love for cakes. Before matriculation to National University of Singapore (NUS), she embarked on a journey to give her own innovative twists to conventional recipes. She set up her own company, Tempting Treats, an online business where she built up a following of students young and old for cake baking and decorating classes. She has conducted numerous baking and decorating classes at Bake King, Northlight School, Singapore Chinese Girls’ School, Amazonia and Cake Over Heels. She has been asked to conduct classes for NTUC events, various corporate team building and birthday parties, amidst countless others.

Back in Singapore, Nick came in 3rd for BIY National Day competition in 2010, and won 3rd prize for Threadcakes’ annual competition in 2012. Tricia has been a certified Wilton Method Instructor since 2007 and is a PME Professional Diploma Instructor at the Bake It Yourself store. She teaches these certificate courses there exclusively.

Tricia was nominated for the Spirit of Enterprise Award 2008, and was a finalist for 2 years running, for the Young Entrepreneur Award 2011 & 2012.

Both Nick and Tricia led the chef team at Cake Over Heels for 3 years prior to setting up The White Ombré Pte Ltd together. Their creations have been featured numerous times in magazines and newspapers, and their edible works of art have graced the tables of celebrities and guests.

In her very first cake decorating competition at the Food & Hotel Asia 2014, Tricia achieved a Bronze Medal, whilst Nick clinched both Gold and Silver Medals.

Our daughter absolutely loves the YouTube videos featuring Dave & Ava, and we could think of no better cake for her first birthday than an Ava cake! White Ombré did an awesome job with Ava and giant candies on a delicious red velvet strawberry cake with pink ombré icing- Chloe was really excited when she saw Ava on the cake ☺️The colorful and yummy cake was a huge hit with my daughter and all the babies/kids at the party, as well as the adults, many of whom came back for a second serving!

It was our second time ordering from Nicholas - the first was our wedding three tier cake and now, our baby's 1 year old cake. Nicholas surprised us with the design as we only mentioned a "mickey & minnie" theme which is not too loud. Not a fan of fondant as it is too sweet, Nicholas managed to produce the cake in red and white, which I were told several times by other patissiers that it was impossible to achieve the red colour unless i opt for fondant. We took up his recommendation - the Lychee Earl Grey flavour and it was well received by many of our guests. The rich layers of lychee in between the rich dense cake provided a different texture to the taste. We'll strongly recommend Nicholas and his team to anyone who needs a cake that is both delectable and pretty to the eyes for any occasion. They'll be sure to deliver =) Thanks Nicholas!
